David Sedaris Live At Carnegie Hall
It can be hard to laugh alone but while driving solo I listened to Sedaris read his "Stadium Pal" story and nearly lost control of my car. I guess if I'd actually been wearing a Stadium Pal I could also have safely lost control of my bladder since this device is designed for the discreet relief of "sports fans, truck drivers and anyone else who's tired of searching for a bathroom".
"Stadium Pal" is one of many highlights on this clever, quirky, sweet, and frequently hilarious recording. Sedaris proves why he is one of the funniest comedy writers alive with his signature dead pan readings on subjects ranging from purchasing clothes in the women's section to the eccentric Dutch legend of St. Nicholas which involves Nick's utilisation of "six to eight black men".
Those familiar with the writing of David Sedaris know how skilfully he mines his family experiences for comedy gold. His sisters Amy and Lisa (and her talking parrot) are again with us in these stories.
UNOC highly recommends you take a listen to a brilliant writer who has the rare gift of bringing his work alive when reading to an audience.
